The best, most authentic Italian cuisine in the Capital District. Always a wonderful dining experience. Allow a couple hours for dinner. Everything is homemade, including the pasta and gelato.
Great food but exceptional service. Treated us like very special customers even though we were from out if town.
Fantastic food and service! The waiter was attentive and respectful, and the food was very rich with homemade pasta and gelato! I would definitely return to try more of the menu. Lovely local place :)
Very good service and good food but you will spend some time. Sit back and relax
The Appian Way is a great Italian restaurant in Schenectady. Homemade pasta and bread! The dressing on salad is lick the plate awesome! The seafood platter was delicious. The homemade gelato is soooo creamy! I can't say enough about The Appian Way! It's Italy in Schenectady!
The most authentic Italian food you will find in the area. Amazing women with decades of experience cooking with only the best ingredients. Service can be slow but well worth the wait. The antipasto is a must and the veal is fork tender.
Amazing food from start to finish wonderful atmosphere excellent staff
2 sisters in the back making traditional Italian food.... pasta, cheeses, bread, gelato all homemade! Be ready to wait because the food is all prepared to order and worth every minute!
All homemade and fresh food Appian Way was absolutely fantastic and everything was delicious. If your looking for a true Italian experience Appian Way is the way to go
Had a delicious meal my steak pizziola was very tender and tasty while my wife enjoyed her penne Al vodka. The staff was very friendly and the atmosphere was like a little bit of Italy right here in Schenectady. The prices were reasonable and the service was great
Wonderful first visit this past weekend. Will definitely be the first of many! Reviews are spot on; great meal, don't go if in a rush, and nice, simple environment. Any wait is due to the care and quality of the main course so enjoy a glass of wine, an appetizer and those you're with. Exceeded expectations, which were high after reading user reviews and press reviews. Salvatore, our server, son of one of the owners, was informative and fun to talk to. He was generous with his knowledge and personality. Sit down, relax, and enjoy a wonderful meal.
Wonderful, intimate, reasonably priced, good portions, fresh and dellicious Italian cuisine
Excellent Italian cuisine. Schenectady has several good Italian restaurants and this one is a hidden gem. Had dinner there with friends recently and everything we ordered was delicious. The appetizers came in generous portions- the calmari was perfectly breaded and light. The service was very good, attentive and friendly. The menu has several options and none of us were disappointed in our selections. As others have mentioned the only "negative" is parking- we didn't have a problem in a Sunday evening but I imagine on street parking could be an issue during peak times (and during show runs at Proctors). Highly recommend and will go again.
Our favorite Italian place to eat in Schenectady.
Just the best prepared meal in area. Vegtables fresh from the garden, takes time but worth it. Would go there again & again. Homemade gellata to die for.
Food was outstanding! The homemade bread was the best ever.
My favorite Ma & Pa homemade food, made from scratch!
Food and service were fantastic! Small place but cute. Can't wait to go back!
Simply Amazing. The food is always great! Authentic Italian, wonderful!
Sevice is slow may need more help when the place gets busy
Amazing mom and pop italian restaraunt that hasn't changed since they opened their doors. Why change? Food was to die for. A great place to relax to a slow paced dinner and good conversation.
Homestyle Italian "on steroids". Great foods, friendly, eager to please.
Food was delicious. The sauce was exactly like my grandmother used to make. I was in heaven.
I liked the food and our friend Mr Amigo gave us great service it's a family own buisness and we had a great time. Will come back soon.
reviews and photos are enticing.
Authentic, home cooked Italian dishes with an Italian family atmosphere. dishes are cooked fresh and to order so be prepared to wait but well worth the wait. Sal, our waiter and son of one of the owners was fantastic.
Best Italian food I've had in a really long time. Food takes a while but that is because it is made fresh once you order. So worth the wait. Service was perfect. So polite and treated our 7 year old daughter so nicely . She loved it. Finish the meal with gelato!
Holy homemade pasta. Just incredible food.
It was so easy to order, I called and spoke to Salvatore he was very nice. The food was delicious, we will be ordering from them again!
We LOVE this place. It's a small local treasure. Don't let the location and appearance of the building fool you. It looks like it was once a 2 family house with the 1st floor flat converted into a restaurant. There are only about 10 tables or so, so I advise making reservations. Also, all the food is homemade......I mean ALL, and cooked to order, so plan on making it an evening. But it's well worth it. Homemade pasta, bread, gelato , all fantastic! They only serve house wine, by the glass or carafe, but it was good. The prices are very reasonable and the services was good. I have and will continue to recommend this place! Truly a diamond in the rough!
You simply can not find better Italian food in the capital region.
Truly great family-style, old-world Italian place. Not the fanciest or lost complicated dishes, but made with soul
Our Family has been enjoying this establishment since they first started up. They have watched us grow as a family through the years, as our father will go no where else for Authentic Italian Food. Every dish we have is described just as his mother had made !!! They always make you feel like you are part of their family every time you walk in they greet you with open arms. During this time of uncertainty they never faltered as to think of others before themselves, we thank you from our hearts !
Ridiculously overpriced sub-par food in a cozy atmosphere with decent service. We waited an hour for stuffed veal for my husband and shrimp scampi for me, although the place was not busy. The scampi shrimp (5 pieces for $25... absurd) was so heavily dredged in flour and coated with lemon that it was all I could taste. It was served with a side of very overcooked pasta with marinara sauce. Not good. Hubby's veal was completely overwhelmed by the heavy sauce it was swimming in. The stuffing inside the veal was just mozzarella cheese. Also not good. We left the restaurant starving with leftovers destined for the trash. The people seemed nice. Go there if you're not hungry or in a hurry.
The food is phenomenal fresh excellent and absolutely phenomenal Service as well recommend it to anyone
A fun old-school Italian restaurant with some traditional dishes and wines. The host is a character, and makes the meal entertaining in his odd way. Portions are good, with an average person going to take home food. Most meals served with a salad, which is typically served family-style.
Excellent Italian food , friendly . Homemade items
Went for my Mother's birthday and so glad we did. Our server was genuinely concerned with our satisfaction. The food was delicious. A hidden gem in Schenectady. Adding this to our "Favorite places" list
This is, no question, the best Italian food in the capital region.
Atmosphere is awesome. Like being in my grammys house. Family style all the way. Hoping the food is as good as hers. AO!
What a GREAT place in every single way! Excellent food, excellent service! Everything is homemade starting from bread ending with dessert. Their gelato is the BEST I've ever had! The best place in Schenectady! Highly reccomend it.
Wow what a find. Like the old days, great Italian food. Brought me back to the Arthur ave days in the Bronx. This is literally a neighborhood restaurant or should I saw a restaurant in the neighborhood. I felt like all us patrons were family. Stayed there for over two hours and the time flew by. Food wine more wine more food. Fried Calamari fantastic! This is not a hipster joint thank god , it has old world charm that would probably turn off some hipsters and their wannabes. The staff is family and I felt a part of it. When in the neighborhood, I will eat there again. Mangia bene! Ciao.
I haven't had Alfredo sauce like this ever
Run by two ladies , they prepare and serve traditional Italian dishes...almost feels like your sitting at Nana's kitchen table. Dinner can usually be 1 1/2 to 2 hrs. Eggplant was picked right from the garden out back and prepared as we ordered our appetizer! Unique and recommended restaurant!
At 4:59pm we were told to leave (yelled at actually) because they don't open until 5pm. We'll never be back. Too bad as the food is good.
Smooth process for take out order was ready for me when I got there. Portions were hot and generous. PS the bread is to die for!!! I cant wait until we are able to dine in person. I dont know Salvatore personally but on phone super friendly, gracious makes you feel like you have known them for years. If you have never dined there please order you won't be disappointed!!
Food is out of this world! Fresh , homemade...wait staff clearly well disciplined, very attentive but not over your shoulder. Definitely recommend for couples, friends...plan to be there at least 2 hours.
Every chance I get I go to Appian Way, the closest cooking to Italy that I have ever seen around the Capital District. The staff are so kind, like you are at their dining room table. I can not say enough about all of the homemade pasta, the salad is so good I could eat it as an entree. I look forward to going in very soon.
Plan to spend a few hours here. Everything is made in house (even the olive oil used in the restaurant is from their family's olive grove in Italy. The three ladies who run the place fly to Italy every year to help with the harvest and refill their supply). Because of this level of quality, you will wait for your fantastic food. Order an appetizer, enjoy the wood burning fireplace and the house wine while you wait.
As close to a restaurant in Italy as you can get here. The food and service are wonderful. We started with the fried calamari. It was light, just crispy enough and flavorful. My entree was the special, braciole . Fantastic! My partner order the osso bucco, and marveled at how tender it was. The homemade pasta sides were tender and delicious. We finished with homemade gelato. A nice treat to finish the meal. Our waitress was very busy, yet managed to be efficient and friendly. Can't believe this was my first visit. It definitely will not be my last!
